The print is taken from an original mixed media painting on canvas made as part of my Underworld series in 2021. It is one of a set of four images made through a layering process, painting and collaging, allowing imagery to form guided by accident, dream and material. The references in the work are mythological and psychological, and open to your interpretation: even I find them an enigma. I see glimpses of figures and museum memories, landscape and ornament, and something different every time I look in there. Collage is a great way of accessing our unconscious, as scale and story are left open-ended.
