Archival frameable print on fine art paper from original mixed media artwork. 35.6 x 25.5 cm ( actual size of the original)
The print is made from my original painting : one of a series of mythological subjects whose story seems to me symbolic of our lived experiences. Here Icarus, who straps on wax and feather wings to fly away from imprisonment on his island, flies too near the sun and scorches his wings. In my version of the story the earth below to which he must fall is also full of dangers. The collage is built in layers and melded with the painted elements to make a dreamlike colourful surface. There is a psychological undertone to the myth - the dangers of ambition, but also the dangers of staying put - but also the exhilaration of danger and the beauty of the journey.
