This painting is based on a wax anatomical display at the Palazzo Poggi in Bologna, Italy, and developed into a vision of Eurydice at the gate of Hades at the point where Orpheus looks back and realises he has just failed in his quest to rescue her - the plaintive expression of the wax model in its case in the museum inspired this narrative of love and loss.
 
The original is acrylic and ink painting and collage, and is my imagination working with the subject matter at the heart of my wax and anatomical expressionism practice.
