My New Group Exhibition at Westminster Hall, the Houses of Parliament, London UK

I'm delighted to be able to tell you all about our new exhibition in Westminster Hall at UK's Parliament, “A Historic Farewell: Art as Witness to the Lying-in-State of Queen Elizabeth II”

This show, free to the public and open till October 2nd, brings together the work of all six of us artists who were invited to be artists in residence in 2022 at the Lying - in - State of the late Queen.

The six artists invited to capture the Lying-in-State were Tina Crawford, Dryden Goodwin, Lachlan Goudie, Julia Midgley, Caroline Walker and myself.

and I’m extremely proud to have shared this remarkable experience with such an outstanding group. It was also an honour and pleasure to have worked with the committees and curatorial and technical teams  at Parliament.

The exhibition presents the finished works of the other five which were commissioned to commemorate the Lying – in – State following the Residencies,  in paint, pencil, print, embroidery, and film - plus some of my preparatory works, the sketchbooks and a bronze maquette of my angel’s head with glass eyes  (the finished statue being already installed in the Norman Porch). Together the works present a lovely  handmade record of the event and all the institutions, regiments, indivduals at Parliament and most importantly the public, who paid their respects and marked the Queen’s final presence in the Palace of Westminster after so long a reign.

The exhibition is free,in the beautiful hostoric space of Westminster Hall though you need to book a free ticket. The link to booking on the UK Parliament website is here

BUT If you want to see my bronze Angel statue, it is in an area of Parliament only accessible if you book and take the guided tour. It’s upstairs in the Norman Porch, the first stop on the tour. The tour is very enjoyable as the building is full of art and history, one of the richest interiors I know. Here is the paid guided tour booking link. booking link. Anyone who visits Parliament for a tour during the exhibition dates (13 July – 2 October 2026) will also be able to see the exhibition, automatically and for no additional charge.

I’ll be posting more about this in the coming days, and about the making of my statue, as the project can now be spoken about which has so long been under wraps.
